This week, our missions prayer is for Lambrick's English Language Learners (ELL) ministry, which reaches out to those who are new or visiting our community. Here is how we can join them in prayer for the teachers and students who are now meeting weekly via Zoom and In Person.

ELL is in full swing this Fall with classes starting this month.  We are pleased to offer 3 classes and a potential for a 4th class to begin in November.  Marlene Laird is stepping down from ELL ministry this Fall.  We are so thankful for her dedication and commitment to the ELL ministry over the past couple of decades.  She will be missed by the students. We are very thankful to have 3 new leaders step forward this Fall.

Tuesday morning in-person This class started the middle of October with 9 students of varying English proficiency attending.  Five students are new to the class and some are very new to Canada.

Prayer focus:

  • Praise for bringing students to us. May they see the love of Jesus through these classes.
  • For patience and persistence for students as they learn English
  • Thankful for 2 new teachers this year.  Please pray for wisdom, creativity, patience, and insight to know how to help each individual student and for building relationships with students.

Thursday Bible Study via Zoom this Bible study started mid-September with 8 people attending from Victoria, Norway, Brazil, and Moldova!  We are continuing in a study of Matthew that we started last year.

Prayer Focus:

  • Praise for the high level of participation, rich discussions and sharing of our faith journey together.
  • For the Spirit to guide participants into deeper faith through studying Scripture; that they would trust God for all things and be reminded of God’s deep love for them through Christ.
  • For strength and wisdom for participants as they seek to live out their faith in everyday life with challenges that they face.
  • Many are praying for family members (spouse, mother, siblings, parents) to come to faith in Jesus.  One woman in particular is facing opposition from a family member.

Tuesday Intermediate class via Zoom this class is just starting this week.  Students will be learning about Canadian culture, news events and a short Bible story.

Prayer focus:

  • Enrolment is low.  Pray for the Lord to lead students to this class.

 General prayer

  • We have a new leader who would like to start a class in his home for students to learn English by reading the Bible. We are hoping to start this group in November.

Prayer focus:

  • For logistics/format of this class to be worked out.
  • That God would lead students to this class.
  • For the leader – wisdom and creativity.

 For students:

  • To feel safe and comfortable to practice speaking English in class.

For teachers:

  • To continue to develop deeper, significant relationships with the students
  • For creativity to meet the diverse needs and skill level of students
  • For wisdom, guidance, and creativity as they plan lessons each week
