Today we pray for our English Language Learners Ministry in which volunteers from our church meet with people who are new to our country and assist them in learning English and in learning about Jesus.  Here are some updates from the program.

We restarted ELL in September with 3 classes: Learning English Through the Bible, Wednesday drop in and a Thursday Bible study.  The Lord brought many new students to our classes as well as have some former students rejoin.

We continue to have new students eagerly join our Wednesday morning classes. Many are committed Christians and rejoice that they can practise their English with other Christians. Still other learners, who have yet to call Jesus Saviour, are delighted to have a welcoming, nonjudgmental place to learn.

Thursday morning Bible studies bring participation from students seeking to know Jesus better. Our studies and discussions help move each of us closer to Christ.

We have matched 2 students with ELL buddies from our congregation. Pray that others will be spurred on to walk alongside and share their faith journey with an ELL student.

We were thrilled and blessed to see one of our students get baptized on Thanksgiving Sunday at Lambrick. Her testimony of how the Lord drew her into a closer relationship with him was so encouraging! As teachers we pray those who come alongside us will see Jesus and know they are precious in his sight. May they seek to know his love and forgiveness.

Praise:

  • We have many beginner students from China, South Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Inner Mongolia, Chile, and Iran.
  • We thank God for a group of volunteers that has stepped up to help us this year. Their patience, encouragement, and expertise are helping create a safe place for people to learn the language and learn about God.  We are also thankful for the teacher’s flexibility to teach different levels as needed.

Requests:

  • For the Lord’s leading in starting an evening class in January as we have had several requests.
  • That the teachers would continue to have good health and energy to continue teaching.
  • That God’s love would be visible to the students.
