International Justice Mission (IJM)

Today we pray for one of our international missions partners - International Justice Missions (IJM) and their program in South Asia to combat forced labor slavery. They rescue victims, partner with agencies to bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and work to strengthens justice systems.

Here is our latest update from them.

Connections made with survivors of labour trafficking:

IJM recently connected with three survivors of labour trafficking living in the region. These survivors were among the 50 children who were rescued from a jewelry factory in September 2019. IJM is following up with these survivors to ensure that they are receiving their government-mandated compensation. IJM is also seeking to identify other trafficking survivors who are willing to participate in advocacy initiatives, and who can be trained as speakers for the Global Survivor Network.

Preliminary investigation of protection model:

IJM has investigated elements of forced labour, including child labour, in industries within the region. The teams are performing strategic planning in preparation to revisit the sites. IJM has also identified 15 local non-governmental organizations who are open to partnering with IJM. These relationships are significant as we work together to understand the issue of labour trafficking in the region, and to scale IJM’s model to protect vulnerable people.

Prayer:

Please pray for the IJM team as it conducts baseline surveys and assessments to prepare the program design. Pray also for wisdom and opportunity for the team as it builds relationships with important public departments. The relationships with these departments are crucial to implement the anti-trafficking programs in the region.
